Athlete Eligibility

In order to be eligible for participation in Special Olympics, an individual with an intellectual disability must agree to observe and abide by the Special Olympics Canada Sports Rules.

  • How do I Become an Athlete?
    Simply contact one of our coaches listed under "Contact Us" and they will walk you through the registration process. 
  • Is Special Olympics for everyone?
    Individuals of all ages and all abilities can train and compete in Special Olympics. No matter what the level of ability, anyone with an intellectual disability is eligible. Athletes compete against and with other athletes of similar ability.
  • How old do I have to be to join?
    Throughout the year athletes of all ages, young and old, participate in weekly training programs. Athletes must be 13 by the first day of competition at National Games.
  • Inspire greatness!
    No other maxim could be more fitting for Special Olympics Kingston, an organization that, at every level, flourishes or fails on its ability to empower individuals. It applies, of course, to the remarkable athletes who, by their very greatness, inspire the coaches and volunteers, and extends to excite the community as a whole.
