 VOLUNTEERING
Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics Kingston. With their combination of skill, support and commitment, it is volunteers that help make a difference in the lives of Special Olympics athletes. But volunteering is a two-way street. In return for their commitment, Special Olympics volunteers share in each athlete's achievements and reap the rewards of helping them reach their potential.

Special Olympics is committed to ensuring volunteers have the training and skills to work with individuals with a range of special needs. Screening and training programs designed by the provincial and national organizations give volunteers the skills and resources they need to deliver top quality coaching and support.

Volunteer opportunities

Special Olympics provides a wide range of occasional and year-round volunteer opportunities to match different interests and abilities:

  • Programs

Program-related roles include coaches, assistant coaches, scorekeepers and referees. Time commitments can range from occasional support to weekly evening or weekend practices. These roles are ideal for people with strong background or interest in sport.

  • Administration and fundraising
Special Olympics has a number of casual and year-round volunteer opportunities in fundraising, administration and special events. These events vary year to year. Sports background is not required.
